Koh Samet takes its name from the Samet tree which grows all over the island. It has long been a locals’ favourite getaway from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Samet was forever stamped into Thai cultural history when Royal classical Thai poet ‘Sunthorn Phu’ set part of his epic poem “Phra Aphaimani” on its shores in 1821. The story follows the adventures of a Prince exiled to an undersea kingdom ruled by a love-sick female giant.

These days Koh Samet (or Samed as its is also spelt) is famous for its pristine white sandy beaches, adventure activities and pampering. Most of the island is a designated National Park. More and more visitors come every year wishing to enjoy all that Samet has to offer.
